Your First Visit with Dr. Peter Caron
What actually happens, including the part about the needles.
The first conversation is a free call with me. By the end of your first visit you’ve been treated, and you know how many visits it should take.
If you already know you want to come in, you can skip the call and book the first visit.
How it goes
From the first call to knowing it’s working.
-
01
A free 15-minute call
You tell me what’s going on. I tell you whether I’m the right person for it and roughly how many visits it would take.
-
02
Your first visit, 90 minutes
I take a full history, including problems you may not think are related, then examine you and take the pulse. Before any needles go in, I tell you what I’m seeing and how I plan to treat it.
-
03
Treated the same day
Treatment starts as soon as the exam is done. If an herbal formula makes sense, I write it before you leave.
-
04
Follow-ups, 60 minutes
Each visit starts with what changed since the last one. I check the pulse and your response and adjust the treatment and any formula to match.
-
05
A straight answer on progress
If it’s working, we space visits out or stop. Many patients don’t need to come back after that. If nothing has changed by the fifth visit, I’ll say so and point you to what will.
“Excellent first visit! Dr Caron discussed my condition and discussed a plan for treatment!”
The essentials
Fees and insurance
I’ll go over exact fees on the free call. I don’t bill insurance directly, but after each visit you get a superbill to submit for out-of-network potential reimbursement.
Who treats you
I see every new patient myself.
From the free call through every follow-up, you see me. I’ve been in practice for 21 years and given more than 25,000 treatments.
Unhurried and private
The first appointment is ninety minutes and each follow-up is sixty, which leaves time to be thorough. Treatment takes place in a private room, and what you tell me stays between us.
Common questions
Before you book.
Anything else, ask me on the free call.
Do I have to do the call first?
No. The call is there if you want to check that I’m the right fit. If you already know, book the first visit directly.
How many visits will I need?
Most patterns respond within 3 to 5 visits. I’ll give you a rough number on the call and a firmer one at the first visit. If your problem will take much longer, or isn’t one I should treat, I’ll tell you before you commit.
Do you take insurance?
I’m out of network with insurance plans, so I don’t bill them directly and you pay at each visit. After every visit you get a superbill, an itemized receipt with the codes your plan needs, and you submit it for out-of-network reimbursement. Many plans cover acupuncture this way, but it varies. Call the number on your insurance card and ask whether acupuncture is covered out of network.
Will you speak with my physician?
Yes, with your permission, whenever it would help your care. Many of my patients also see a concierge or primary-care physician, and some were referred to me by them.
What should I wear?
Come as you are. I keep shorts and t-shirts at the office, so there’s no need to change before you arrive or plan your day around the appointment. Patients come in suits, in evening gowns, and in pajamas, and all of it is fine.
How do I find the office?
The office is at 118 West 72nd Street, between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues. Enter W72 Wellness, go to the rear lobby, and press 1010 on the buzzer to be let in.
